Earth Day Neighborhood Clean and Green

New Solar Powered Trash Compactor at CP!

Have you seen it???  Our park was chosen by the Chicago Park District to receive one of the new solar powered trash compactors that have been going in a few parks across the city.  Just in time for the busy days of summer and for Earth Day…

Speaking of Earth Day….In honor of Earth Day this year our parks will be participating in two great events to support cleaning up our parks and our neighborhood.  Friends of the Park is sponsoring the Earth Day Parks and Preserve Clean Up and the 1st Ward is taking part in the City of Chicago’s Clean & Green.  To take part in both events meet up at Commercial Park at 9 am on Saturday, April 17.  We will work to clean up the streets and parks in our neighborhood, including Superior, Honore and Snowberry Playlots. Around lunch time please head back to Commercial where we are planning to have a bar-b-que and enjoy some time together as a neighborhood.  Plan to bring gloves if you have them.  Rakes, shovels and garbage bags will be provided.

CPD Summer Camp Scholarships Available

Commercial Park Advisory Council received this information and wanted to pass it on.


Thanks to a grant of over $200,000 from Parkways Foundation eligible Chicago families will receive scholarships for the Chicago Park Districts summer day camp program.  The grant will allow the Chicago Park District to subsidize eligible children at a rate of 50% or 75% of the cost to attend the six-week long session.

On Thursday, March 18 from 10 a.m. 9 p.m. and Saturday, March 20 from 9 a.m. 12 p.m., parents can submit required paperwork to see if they qualify at designated scholarship processing centers at nine citywide parks.  For more information, call the scholarship information line at 312.742.5734 or click here for full details from the CPD website: Scholarship Info

Are you registered with eScrip?

Did you know that Commercial Park can get a direct percentage of what you spend at Dominick’s when you scan your Fresh Values Card?  All you have to do is sign up online with eScrip.  Have your Fresh Values card number ready.  Click on the sign up and type ‘Commercial Park’ into the group name.  The advisory council group will come up, choose it and continue on with the registration.  This is such an easy way to give back with money you already spend.  You can also link through the eScrip site to over 700 retailers (including Amazon, ebay, Staples, 1800 PetMeds and ToysRUs) and Commercial Park will earn a percentage every time.

Online Sign Up :: Monday 9am!

Spring is just around the corner.  Here’s a reminder to be ready to register for all the great programs Chicago Park District has to offer.  Online Registration begins tomorrow at 9 am.  Many of the popular preschool and toddler programs fill up within the first few minutes so log on right away to make sure you get your spots.  The park district programs are an affordable opportunity for children to make friends and learn new skills.

Many toddler and preschool aged programs are limited to online sign-up so don’t wait until Saturday’s in person sign-up.  No spots for ‘online only’ will be given in person.  Log on at www.chicagoparkdistrict.com and create a wishlist so you can complete your order quickly.
