Okay, you know this hint of Spring weather has got you…you have closets overflowing with stuff you keep shoving in every time company is coming…

Now is your chance to free up some space in your home and help the park…

The Commercial Park Garage Sale is BACK!!! This year we have moved it up to March 26th and 27th so you need to get started!  We also have two ways to participate:

Option 1:  Donate your stuff to the park. We will sell it and use the money for free programming and playlot improvements.  We can”t start taking your stuff until March 21st so please hang on to it and bring it over the week before the sale.  No adult clothing, please.

Option 2:  Buy a table and sell your things. We will provide you with a table and space for displaying.  We will do the advertising for you.  This way you don’t have to beg people to venture down your alley!  Tables are $30 for the weekend.  The best part….Leave your stuff behind.  We will take care of all the leftovers!  Email Georgia Burke at georgiaburke@gmail.com if you would like to sign up for a table.

So, don’t just sit there!  Use these chilly March days to clean house so that when the warmer days arrive you can open the windows and relax!

Come out and vote for new Commercial Park Advisory Council Board members.  The month CPAC meeting is Tuesday night, August 17th at 7:30pm in the field house at Commercial park.  Nominations were held during the July meeting and positions will be voted on at this meeting.  This meeting, and all advisory council meetings are open to the public and are held the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm.  Check out the July 2010 Minutes to stay up to date.

The bar is open to the public so spread the word.  Commercial Park playlots will receive the profits from the sale of every pint!!!

We hope you will come out and join us for this annual event.  The new Alderman of the First Ward will be there helping us spruce up the neighborhood and will be feeding the volunteers with a post-clean-up barbecue.  If you have friends in the neighborhood please forward this email on to them.  If you are interested in receiving these updates about events at Commercial Park and Honore, Superior and Snowberry playlots please head to our website http://www.commercialpark.org and click on subscribe!  Hope to see new and old faces this Saturday. ~ Georgia Burke

Have you seen it???  Our park was chosen by the Chicago Park District to receive one of the new solar powered trash compactors that have been going in a few parks across the city.  Just in time for the busy days of summer and for Earth Day…

Speaking of Earth Day….In honor of Earth Day this year our parks will be participating in two great events to support cleaning up our parks and our neighborhood.  Friends of the Park is sponsoring the Earth Day Parks and Preserve Clean Up and the 1st Ward is taking part in the City of Chicago’s Clean & Green.  To take part in both events meet up at Commercial Park at 9 am on Saturday, April 17.  We will work to clean up the streets and parks in our neighborhood, including Superior, Honore and Snowberry Playlots. Around lunch time please head back to Commercial where we are planning to have a bar-b-que and enjoy some time together as a neighborhood.  Plan to bring gloves if you have them.  Rakes, shovels and garbage bags will be provided.

More details to follow on Friday!
