New Solar Powered Trash Compactor at CP!

Have you seen it???  Our park was chosen by the Chicago Park District to receive one of the new solar powered trash compactors that have been going in a few parks across the city.  Just in time for the busy days of summer and for Earth Day…

Speaking of Earth Day….In honor of Earth Day this year our parks will be participating in two great events to support cleaning up our parks and our neighborhood.  Friends of the Park is sponsoring the Earth Day Parks and Preserve Clean Up and the 1st Ward is taking part in the City of Chicago’s Clean & Green.  To take part in both events meet up at Commercial Park at 9 am on Saturday, April 17.  We will work to clean up the streets and parks in our neighborhood, including Superior, Honore and Snowberry Playlots. Around lunch time please head back to Commercial where we are planning to have a bar-b-que and enjoy some time together as a neighborhood.  Plan to bring gloves if you have them.  Rakes, shovels and garbage bags will be provided.

More details to follow on Friday!

Christmas Party ~ Are you ready?

Tchristmas treehe Commercial Park Christmas Party is fast approaching and we need your help to make it another success!  This year’s party will be December 5th from Noon-2:30.  There will be Santa, Card-making, cookies, raffles and of course carriage rides! We are looking for volunteers in a couple different ways:

* Help set-up on Friday the 4th or Saturday morning or clean-up after the party.

*Cookie Bakers needed – We hand out dozens and dozens of cookies so we really need your help to feed the sweet tooths!  Bake a batch or two of cookies and drop them off at the park on Thursday (Dec. 3rd) , Friday  (Dec. 4th) or Saturday (before noon).

*Volunteer to help our during the festivities.  We need moms and dads to work the Santa line,  help out with crafts and hand out cookies.  If you can give an hour of your time that afternoon we would love to have you.

Email georgiaburke@gmail.com or stop by the park and sign up with the staff.
