The Fifth Annual Kid Fest is just a few weeks away and it is time to sign up for volunteering! We are looking for volunteers who can sell/collect tickets, serve food, face paint, setup/cleanup and pass out posters/fliers. If you are interested and available on July 10th & 11th (or the days before for setup) please leave a comment below with your availability and interest (if you have one). Also if you know high school students looking for volunteer hours this is a great opportunity for them to get a jump start on their requirements. You will be contacted with more details (your comment will be private). You can also stop by Commercial Park and fill out a form with the staff.

Please join us Tuesday June 15th at 7:30 Commercial Park Advisory Council Meeting in the field house .
Open to the public and a great way to find out what is going on at the park.
This meeting is particularly special as it is time to bid a fond farewell to Kate Mell and Dave Stumm, two very long-time supporters of the park, who are, sadly, moving away. Kate and Dave were instrumental in starting the Commercial Park Advisory Council 10 years ago (going on 11) and have been crucial to the success of events like the Holiday Party, Halloween Party and the Garage Sale Fundraiser. Together they have worked tirelessly to make Commercial Park and huge asset to the East Village neighborhood. They will surely be missed.
We also have board nominations coming up in July with elections in August. This year’s available positions are President, Treasurer and Publicist. We will also be filling a newly vacant secretary position. These positions hold a two-year term and anyone interested is urged to come Tuesday to get all the details.

New Solar Powered Trash Compactor at CP!
Have you seen it??? Our park was chosen by the Chicago Park District to receive one of the new solar powered trash compactors that have been going in a few parks across the city. Just in time for the busy days of summer and for Earth Day…
Speaking of Earth Day….In honor of Earth Day this year our parks will be participating in two great events to support cleaning up our parks and our neighborhood. Friends of the Park is sponsoring the Earth Day Parks and Preserve Clean Up and the 1st Ward is taking part in the City of Chicago’s Clean & Green. To take part in both events meet up at Commercial Park at 9 am on Saturday, April 17. We will work to clean up the streets and parks in our neighborhood, including Superior, Honore and Snowberry Playlots. Around lunch time please head back to Commercial where we are planning to have a bar-b-que and enjoy some time together as a neighborhood. Plan to bring gloves if you have them. Rakes, shovels and garbage bags will be provided.
More details to follow on Friday!
